We’re proud to announce that Argyll has achieved Silver Carbon Literate Organisation accreditation from The Carbon Literacy Project, recognising the progress we’ve made in embedding Carbon Literacy across our business.
The accreditation builds on the Bronze status we achieved earlier this year and marks an important next step in our sustainability journey. While Bronze recognised our commitment to Carbon Literacy and the training of our team, Silver demonstrates something more: that the knowledge gained through that training is translating into meaningful action across Argyll.

Turning learning into action
Our Carbon Literacy journey began with the development of our own training programme, designed specifically around Argyll, our buildings and the decisions our team members make every day.
Approved by The Carbon Literacy Project, the programme gives our team a greater understanding of climate change, the carbon impact of our choices and, importantly, the practical role each of us can play in reducing emissions.
More than 60 team members have now completed the programme, including members of our senior leadership team. Everyone who takes part makes both an individual and a group pledge, committing to practical changes that can make a difference.
Since achieving Bronze, our focus has been on ensuring those commitments lead to action. Across the business, Carbon Literacy pledges are influencing areas including sustainable travel, food waste management, energy efficiency, building operations, procurement and the way we work with suppliers and contractors.
Making Carbon Literacy part of how we work
For us, achieving Silver isn’t simply about training more people. It’s about making carbon-conscious thinking part of everyday conversations and decisions.
Carbon Literacy pledges are now incorporated into regular 1:1s, giving team members an opportunity to revisit their commitments, discuss progress and identify where they can do more.
Sustainability is also increasingly part of team and management discussions, creating space for colleagues to share ideas and challenge how we do things.
This approach has brought together teams from across Argyll, including People, Operations and Property, as well as the contractors and suppliers we work with. It means responsibility for reducing our impact is shared across the organisation rather than sitting with one person or team.
We’ve continued to reinforce this through company-wide communications and initiatives and regular updates on our wider sustainability work.
Building sustainability into our strategy
Carbon Literacy also forms part of our 2026 ESG Strategy, where we set a formal objective to strengthen our Carbon Literacy capability and progress from Bronze to Silver accreditation.
Our progress is reviewed at Executive level through regular ESG reporting and quarterly updates, helping to ensure that sustainability remains visible as we make decisions about our business, buildings and operations.
This work sits alongside the wider commitments outlined in our 2025 ESG Impact Report, which details the progress we’re making across our environmental, social and governance priorities.
Emily Smith, CEO at Argyll, said:
“Achieving Silver accreditation is an important milestone because it recognises how Carbon Literacy is becoming embedded across Argyll.
“Our aim has always been to go beyond raising awareness. We want our team to feel empowered to make more sustainable choices, question how we do things and identify practical opportunities to reduce our impact.
“What’s particularly encouraging is seeing those commitments translate into action across different areas of the business. Silver is recognition of the progress we’ve made, but it also gives us a strong foundation to keep building on.”
What comes next?
We’ll continue to develop the programme, support team members in putting their pledges into practice and look for new opportunities to reduce our impact across our buildings and operations.
As we continue our ESG journey, our focus is on making carbon-conscious thinking increasingly instinctive across Argyll, so that sustainability is considered not just as part of our ESG strategy, but as part of the way we do business every day.
Silver is an important milestone on that journey, and one we’re excited to build on.
